Engine Club’s 25th Driffield Steam Rally
This year’s Driffield Steam & Vintage Rally, to be held on 9th & 10th August at the Driffield Showground, will be the 25th organised by the East Riding Engine Club. Since its first event in 1990 the Club has not only provided great shows but has also raised many thousands of pounds for local charities with the principal beneficiary being Yorkshire Cancer Research. This charity has supplemented these donations by a street collection made each year during the ever popular Saturday night road run into Driffield town centre which last year alone raised a further £2700.
Detailed planning for this celebratory event has been ongoing since February with the organising committee hoping to make the 25th rally and the road run events to remember. Every Section, from the steam engines to the vintage caravans, is expecting to put on a better than ever display and this includes the old time fair with some new attractions joining the traditional steam gallopers and dodgem cars. As the rally always attracts large numbers of caravans and campers the already extensive camping area is to be made even bigger this year.
As part of the planned celebrations it is hoped that many of the steam and vintage exhibits which attended the 1990 rally will be coming again this year. In keeping with the party atmosphere, a spectacular firework display is to be held on the Saturday night after the vintage vehicles have returned to The Showground from the road run.
