Epic adventure in aid of African children's charity

MOTORBIKE enthusiasts from Fridaythorpe are preparing to take the ride of their lives to raise vital funds for children in the developing world.

Neil Fisher and Nick Broggan are planning to ride 3,000km across Africa on endurance bikes to raise 5,000 for charity organisation Enduro Africa.

Neil said: "We both do endurance biking anyway, that's our sport but this will be the first time we have done anything like this."

"I came across it in one of my biking magazines. It's something we enjoy doing and we can go and have a bash while raising money at the same time," he added.

Enduro Africa is an off-road charity ride supporting three children's charities - Unicef, the Nelson Mandela children's Fund and Sentebale which was founded by Prince Harry to raise money for orphans and vulnerable children in Lesotho.

The intrepid duo will be taking part in the rally in October and hope to complete the route within two weeks.

Within the funds raised the pair will be provided with motorbikes which will be used to help local communities long after Neil and Nick have returned home.

Neil added: "When the ride is complete the motorbike is then donated to the African doctors to enable them to travel between villages which at present they are unable to do."

To kick start their fundraising efforts Neil and Nick are holding a traditional medieval banquet at the Queens Head pub, in Kirkburn on Friday May 2.

Tickets will cost 25 per person to include all you can eat, wine, medieval costume, live music and disco.

For further information about the Queen's Head event or to purchase a ticket contact Neil on tel 07919 886206 or Nick on tel 07946 186876.

Alternatively telephone the Queens Head, Kirkburn, on (01377) 229261.
