Respected British Mountaineer Sir Chris Bonnington is backing Marie Curie’s portfolio of UK Mountain Challenges, and is urging people not to miss out on the opportunity to take on the best of the British outdoors whilst raising funds for the charity.

The events represent the most iconic mountain challenges the UK has to offer: Ben Nevis, Snowdon, Scafell Pike, Yorkshire Three Peaks and the Dartmoor Challenge. The challenges which take place between June and October, sees participants scaling the UK’s highest peaks along some of the most scenic and iconic routes, including Ben Nevis, Snowdon and the Yorkshire Three Peaks, the toughest of the challenges. At 26 miles in length, the Yorkshire Three Peaks is the hardest undertaking in the Mountain Challenge series, and covers some of the most challenging terrain in the Peak District, while the Dartmoor Challenge is relatively flat and scenic 10 mile hike. Aimed at walkers with some experience and those wanting a new and exciting challenge, the events cater for people of different fitness levels offering a worthwhile challenge for all taking part and the full support of experienced Mountain Leaders. So whether you are a weekend walker or a first time challenge trekker, there is an event for you.

Sir Chris commented, ““I am delighted to support Marie Curie’s 2014 UK Mountain Challenges and would like to encourage people all across the UK to take the opportunity to not only embrace the great British outdoors but to also support a fantastic charity. Every step that you take and every pound that you raise will help Marie Curie Nurses to provide more hands on care and support to terminally ill patients in their own homes”.
