Going the extra mile
beverley community lift
Beverley Community Lift has launched an appeal to find volunteer drivers.
The organisation offers a caring and supportive service to people who cannot easily access other forms of transport.
The service benefits the elderly and disabled in Beverley and those who are rurally isolated.
Volunteers provide a car service and can take people to medical appointments such as hospital, doctors, dentist, opticians.
They pick up passengers at their front door and see them safely to their appointment.
The charity also provides a minibus service with volunteer drivers.
There are door-to-door shopper buses to a local supermarket and also day trips to various places such as Whitby, Castle Howard and Pickering Wartime Weekend.
All of the vehicles are wheelchair accessible and full training is given to both car and minibus volunteers.
In recent surveys, people who used the service said they were 100% satisfied and some said that they did not know what they would do without the charity.
The charity relies on fund raising and requests donations for transport in order to stay on the road
Anyone interested in helping with transport please call 01482 868082 or pop in to the office at 25 Corporation Road in Beverley.
