Homes for our feathered friends
WITH spring just around the corner residents in Hutton Cranswick have been busy sawing, drilling and hammering together bird boxes for the village's feathered friends.
Pictured are residents of all ages who attended a bird box construction event at the Hutton Cranswick Sports and Recreation Association club house on Rotsea Lane on Saturday.
The nest boxes had been pre-sawn, drilled and made ready for assembly by Arthur Brigham and residents were invited to take along their own tools to help put them together.
Lynn Hall, of Hutton Cranswick in Bloom which organised the event, said about 27 people, mainly families, attended the event which she described as “a lot of fun.”
Each box was numbered and the majority of them will be put up around Centenary Wood where their creators will be able to keep an eye on them while any surplus boxes will go into private gardens.
Jon Traill and Harriett Linfoot of the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust were on hand throughout the morning to give out hints and tips on caring for local wildlife and they have been invited to return to give advice on the citing of the boxes in Centenary Wood.
Residents also had the chance to make their own bird feeders.
