Howling 'Hammond' jazz at Stephen Joseph

JAZZ musician James Taylor, reputed as one of the great instrumentalists of his generation, will bring his trademark howling Hammond sound to the Stephen Joseph Theatre on Thursday August 27.

The James Taylor Quartet is an influential and prolific band at the forefront of the acid jazz movement and are widely regarded as masters of the jazz-funk-r’n’b workout, where 60s spy themes, psychedelic and free form jazz all play their part in the creation of the band’s distinctive sound.

When JTQ released their first single in 1985 it immediately attracted the attention of John Peel who championed it .

With an ever growing following they have built up a solid relationship with their fans due to an emphasis on live ‘dance’ music.

With the release of numerous albums and an extensive number of performances, most recently a main stage slot at the Burton Agnes Jazz and Blues Festival, their trademark sound has reached a worldwide audience.

With JTQ's success, James' musical talent became admired by numerous other acts including The Wonderstuff, Manic Street Preachers, The Pogues and U2, who have all featured James and his distinctive Hammond playing on their albums.
