Latest news - Police seek witnesses after Murder investigation launched following death of 40 year old woman at Clematis Close, Driffield. East Yorkshire
Detectives working in the Major Incident Team are currently in the early stages of a murder investigation.
Police were called to an address at Clematis Close in Driffield, at 5.50pm yesterday (Wednesday 01 September 2010).
A 40-year-old Driffield woman had been injured following an alleged assault outside the address.
The woman sadly died at the scene of the incident at 6.40pm.
The woman has not yet been formally identified.
A post mortem is scheduled for this evening.
Officers arrested a 43-year-old man at the scene, and he was taken into police custody for questioning.
The 43-year-old Grimsby man is currently being interviewed by detectives.
Senior Investigating Officer, Chief Inspector Steve Hibbitt from the Major Incident Team said: "Officers are currently working to ascertain the last known movements of the victim and personal circumstances including her connection with the man who has been arrested.
"We are currently in the early stages of conducting interviews with the suspect.
"A large amount of enquiries are still to be conducted and until the deceased has been formally identified and a post mortem examination completed, we cannot provide anymore details.
"The family are being supported by specialist family liaison officers at this incredibly sad time.
"There will be an increased amount of police activity in the Driffield area, while enquiries are conducted - this should not pose a concern to the wider community."
Detectives are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident, however anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact the Major Incident Team on 01377 208989 as matter of urgency.
