PROPOSALS to build two new houses on the edge of Nafferton have been opposed by parish councillors this week.
Concern about overcrowding and overlooking of existing properties persuaded a majority to vote against the scheme for land north of 3 Wold Road at the authority’s meeting on Wednesday.
The applicants, the Trustees of the late Mr P Agar, are seeking permission to build two new properties on the site.
But Coun Jean Towers said she was concerned about potential overcrowding of the site, while Coun Fiona Trewartha expressed worries about possible overlooking of existing bungalows.
However, Coun John Rudd said the proposed new buildings were identical to the current properties.
He added: “I can’t see how the hell you can say they can’t be built there. I can’t see what the problem is.”
Meanwhile, councillors voiced no objections to a proposal to build a small-scale 15kW wind turbine at Wold Farm, Scarborough Road, Driffield.
The following applications were also considered at the meeting:
• An application for a single storey extension to the rear of Spellow Cottage, Spellowgate, Driffield was recommended for approval.
• A resubmitted application to build a dwelling and detached garage on land south-east of 25 Priestgate, Nafferton was recommended for approval.
The meeting was also told that an application to build a two storey rear extension following the demolition of an existing extension at The Grange, Wold Road had been approved by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
But an application for change of use of land for siting of a caravan at the Cromer Building on Markman Lane has been withdrawn.
