Beverley legal practice Sandersons Solicitors has taken on four new recruits as demand grows across a number of its departments.
Solicitor Richard Lee, 36, and newly qualified Katie McColm, 24, have both joined the firm’s family law department and Edward Allen, 32, joins the tax and wealth management department.
Emma Greenwood, age 35, who trained and has worked in Hull, joins Sandersons as a commercial property solicitor.
Director James Ashton said the recruitment drive has resulted from a steady growth in demand for legal services over recent months and changes to family law which came in this year.
In April legal aid was cut for nearly all cases involving separated couples in dispute over access to children.
However, despite this move in the last six months the numbers of parents applying to go to court has risen and the numbers using mediators has fallen, Mr Ashton said.
“Ironically, despite the government’s attempts to decrease the number of disputes going to court and increase the use of mediators, the reverse has happened, which is part of the reason we needed two new solicitors for our family department,” he said.
“Richard has been practicing family law for more than seven years and is a valuable addition to the team and Katie, who has recently qualified, will also be specialising in family law, as this continues to be a growth area for the business.”
Edward Allen has moved to East Yorkshire from Manchester where he lived for the past 16 years and where he trained and worked as a solicitor at one of the regions’ leading commercial firms.
His role will see him advise Sanderson’s private East Yorkshire based clients on tax and wealth management issues, a growth area of business for the company.
He said he thought Beverley was a charming place to work, with a vibrant town centre and growing, entrepreneurial, business community.
Mr Allen added: “This move is a fantastic opportunity and I’m looking forward to working with the rest of the team at Sandersons to provide high quality tax and wealth management advice to clients.”
Sandersons Solicitors is one of East Yorkshire’s oldest legal practices and can trace its roots back to the early nineteenth century.
It has offices in Morton Lane, Beverley and Parliament Street, Hull.
