Lifestylers' hard work reaps rewards

DRIFFIELD Lifestyle teams have been rewarded for their hard work over the summer months.

Teams from across the Humber region came together at the Humberside Police’s 20th Anniversary Lifestyle Awards last month.

They were rewarded for their achievements in front of an audience of civic dignitaries, business supporters, senior police officers, parents and adult advisors.

Tracy Milnes of Humberside Police’s Lifestyle project team said: “Driffield enjoyed an outstanding number of successful teams at the glittering awards.

“The event was a vibrant celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Humberside Police Lifestyle project and an opportunity to acknowledge the countless dogs walked, cars washed, bags packed, buns baked, gardens dug, weeds cleared, bulbs planted, and the innumerable sponsored walks undertaken by Lifestyle teams this summer and over the last 19 years.”

This year almost 5,000 children took part with 500 teams completing the project working a total of 97,565.5 hours and raising 97,068.75.

Dave Smith, General Manager of BP Acetyls Europe, the principal sponsors of Lifestyle 2008, was there to present the winners with their prize.

He said: “The sheer amounts of effort young people have put into their projects during the long summer months, and in that time, what they have achieved is incredible, they are a true inspiration to us all.”

Chief Constable of Humberside Police, Tim Hollis, said: “We often see negative news stories about young people but the enthusiasm of those taking part in Lifestyle this year, and for the last 20 years show a very different story. When young people are engaged in positive activity, they are a force to be reckoned with and a force for good. Often in a challenging environment young Lifestylers have proven their worth since 1989 and we congratulate them all.”
