As council tax bills arrive on doormats over the next couple of weeks, East Riding of Yorkshire Council is reminding residents that there are a variety of ways to make them easier to pay.

The easiest way is by Direct Debit, as this only needs setting up once, and payments are deducted directly from the bank each month. There is a new online option to pay council tax by Direct Debit, which can be found at the council’s website : www.eastriding.gov.uk

Residents can also pay their bills online or by the automated telephone service.

In addition to this, a range of bills can now be paid in cash at local Post Offices or retail outlets showing the PayPoint sign, including: Council tax; Business rates; Housing benefit overpayments; Sundry invoices.

Residents should take their barcoded bills to any Post Office, or any outlet displaying the PayPoint sign. From late summer, it will be possible to pay council rents in this way, too.

Councillor Margaret Chadwick, portfolio holder for council support services, said: “I am pleased that we have been able to introduce new and easier ways for people to pay, including the secure online Direct Debit facility. I would encourage residents to investigate paying in this way.”
