On Sunday 27 October the Mayor of Driffield, Coun Heather Venter, hosted her Civic Service.
The service was held for the first time, at the Congregational Church on Exchange Street. Dignitaries, including the High Sherriff and the Lord Lieutenant, as well as many Mayors from the East Riding, North Yorkshire and North East Lincolnshire were welcomed by Pastor John Gaughan and Deacon Peter Osbourn.
The civic guests had paraded to the church from the Community Centre, led by the Town Crier, Brian Fairfield and standards from the St Johns Ambulance Cadets and the Brownies.
Pastor Gaughan led a lively and entertaining service featuring music, hymns and lessons read by the former Mayor, Margaret Killin, Clerk, Claire Binnington and the Mayor herself.
The congregation then attended The Bell Hotel for a Civic Reception. Mayor, Cllr Heather Venter, said “It was lovely to welcome guests and representatives from local groups and organisations to the Civic Service, the Congregational Church gave us a great welcome and I would like to thank them and George and Rita at the Bell Hotel for making the day very special”.
