Nafferton film aims for Cannes
FILMING has taken place in Nafferton of a new film about the outbreak of the First World War.
Production of Turner's War took place in the village on Sunday and Monday and producers hope the film could make it all the way to next year's Cannes Film Festival.
Co-directors Graham Williams and David Maddison, of the Manchester based Oak Tree Films production company, were joined by a number of people from the village and the surrounding areas as both crew and extras.
Mr Maddison said he was pleased with how the filming had gone, in spite of a busy schedule over the two days.
Mr Maddison said he hoped the film would be entered for the Best Short Film category at the world famous festival in France next year.
Filming has now been completed and it is hoped the footage will be processed over the next few weeks.
Mr Maddison said the company was hoping the film will be screened for the first time in February.
As previously reported, the film tells the true story of how the Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand narrowly escaped death on a pheasant shoot a year before he was eventually assassinated in Sarajevo to trigger the outbreak of war in Europe.
For the filming to take place, a full size trench was dug at Station Farm in the village to recreate life for soldiers fighting on the Western Front. Mr Maddison thanked the Baron and Newland families for their help and the village as a whole for taking part in the production.
