Nafferton Pre School Plan - Is it feasible?

A FEASIBILITY study and funding applications are ongoing as efforts continue to secure the future of a Nafferton pre-school group.

The details emerged after parish councillors were updated on the latest developments on the project for a new building to house the Nafferton Under Fives at their latest meeting.

Further discussions are set to take place next month and officials remain hopeful that a planning application can be submitted to the East Riding Council by the end of the year.

As first reported in July, community leaders, charity bosses and education leaders have joined forces in a bid to build a long-term home for the Under Fives on land at the site of the village primary school on Westgate.

Parish councillor Kath Foster told the Driffield Times that an architect had been employed on the scheme and that a feasibility study into the proposal was being carried out.

Officials are set to meet in early November to discuss the plans further and Mrs Foster said it was still hoped that a planning application could be submitted in December, as was originally targeted in the summer.

Meanwhile, councillors heard at their Wednesday meeting that an initial funding application had been made.

Mrs Foster said they were seeking Lottery funding for the scheme, but that the community aspect of the development needed to be highlighted.

However, the meeting heard that other funding sources are not available because the site is a school site, though other avenues are also being explored. As previously reported, the development is being supported by the parish council, school governors and the Nafferton Feoffees charitable trust.

And the group are also raising funds towards the project themselves through a number of events.
