A funeral service was held at St Andrew’s Church, Ulrome on Monday, 30 December, 2013 for Mr John Frederick Palmer of West End Farm, Ulrome who died peacefully at home on the 18 December. He was 69.

The service was conducted by the Rev Margaret Dye, the Reader was Mrs Margaret Walker & the organist was Ann Blackburn.

John was born at Stonehill Farm between Barmston and Fraisthorpe on May 2, 1944, he then moved with his parents Fred and Frances to Ulrome. He was the second of six children. He attended Ulrome school and then St Georges in Bridlington. John was a farmer all his working life, whilst working at Ulrome Grange as a teenager he met Wendy Watson, they married in 1971 and had two children.

He was a fan of sport and enjoyed playing football for Ulrome for many years. He loved Rugby League and from the 1980’s followed Hull Kingston Rovers. He always enjoyed being outdoors, in the countryside or around his farm, gardening, feeding the birds or just pottering. Over the years he participated in many village projects like planting daffodils on the village green, reinstating and improving the village pond and being the treasurer of the village hall.

John was a great family man, never happier than when his children and grandchildren were with him or having parties with his brothers, sisters and families.

John was very much loved and will be sadly missed by his children Billie-Jo and Adrian, son in law Andrew and daughter in law Helen, grandchildren Jennifer and Jack and all his brothers and sisters and families.
