Oli takes blues to masses

DRIFFIELD born musician Oli Brown is gearing up for the start of his UK tour which promises to take blues music to the masses.

Oli has been playing his unique brand of blues music for six year, has toured extensively around the UK, Europe and the Mid-West, has opened for a who’s who of big names in the Blues world, including Buddy Guy and Joe Bonamassa - and he is only 20-years of age.

Oli will embark on a UK-wide tour on October 1 with band members Fredy Hollis who plays bass and Simon Dring on drums, and he told the Driffield Post he is looking forward to getting back on the road.

“It’s nice to get back on the road because we have been doing a lot of writing and not doing very many gigs recently so I’m looking forward to it,” he said,

Oli will be staying with his grandparents in Driffield for part of his tour and is especially looking forward to playing venues close to his roots, adding: “It’s always nice to go back to a local place and catch up with friends and family,” he said.

Last year was a busy one for the musician who is trying to take his brand of blues to a younger audience.

Manager and father Graham Brown said: “His take on Blues with a mix of Funk, Jazz and Rock gives him that extra individuality and his youth is attracting the younger audiences too. His appeal crosses the traditional barriers.”In 2008, Ruf Records saw and heard the potential and signed Oli to their label before taking him to Germany to record his debut album, Open Road.

The album was released last July to great reviews from Mojo, Uncut, Guitarist, Classic Rock, and Sunday Express to name just a few.

The rest of 2008 saw Oli Brown performing in the UK and in America, while 2009 is turning out to be another fantastic year with further gig in Europe, various festival gigs, television and radio sessions in the UK, Europe and America and Vanquish Guitars presenting Oli with the first Oli Brown Signature guitar.

The Oli Brown Band will perform at the Grand Opera House, York on October 25 and The Blues Club (Cask Inn), Scarborough on Tuesday October 27.
