The Chair of Directors at Beverley Racecourse is set to be given an MBE after being named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

Charles Arnold Maxsted will pick up the honour for his services to Beverley Racecourse and the wider community in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Charles has seen huge changes at Beverley Racecourse since he first started there over 30 years ago and watched it evolve into a major venue for more than just racing over the years.

The racecourse is not Charles’ only big contribution to Beverley, he has served as a magistrate in the town for 32 years and also served on the old Beverley District Council.

Charles said: “I was very surprised to learn I was to get the award, but also delighted.

“This award should also be for everyone who helps to make Beverley Racecourse such a success, it’s not just the work of one man it takes a huge effort from everybody.

“My family are very excited about the award too and can’t wait to come down when I receive it.

“I am very pleased and honoured, I hope I am a worthy recipient.”
