Driffield town council allotment committee have worked hard this year to liaise with tenants with regard to various issues over the past year, the vice chair, Coun Joan Cooper told the annual parish meeting.
“After much consideration and consultation it was agreed to put the rent up to £30 from April 1st 2014, a decision that was met with some dismay but unfortunately necessary due to increasing costs and the need for a long term solution to the problem of the roads. It is also worth bearing in mind that even at £30 this is still less than many neighbouring parish allotment rents.
“We have been fortunate to have Shiela Barker, a tenant who with some help from fellow tenants, such as Hazel Arnold, organised a very enjoyable bbq at which the allotment presentations were made. It was a lovely event and really brought everyone together.
We also have the help of our Allotment Officer, Mr Acey, who works hard to organise issues on a day to day level at the allotments themselves, and our thanks go to him.
Remedial work on the roads is expected to start in May/June.
All the plots are taken and we have a reasonable waiting list.
