Scarecrow spectacular

THERE were lots of happy faces in Wetwang this week when the village's 6th annual scarecrow festival kicked off.

Wetwang was filled with sightseers when the judges toured the village on Saturday morning. The ingenuity of the children, adults and family groups made their task difficult and deliberations went on over lunch and into the afternoon.

There are almost 100 scarecrows on view with themes ranging from The Owl and the Pussycat to Dr Foster went to Gloucester (via Wetwang) and from Liza's Summer Flowers to Super Girl.

The prizes will be presented at a special event in the village hall on Sunday afternoon.

This year's judges were Coun Mrs Barbara Jefferson; John Murray, former headmaster of Wetwang School; Anne O'Connor, current head of Wetwang School; Dennis Sissons, editor of the Driffield Times and Driffield Post.
