A Driffield fund raising group have raised £10,000 to be donated to a local hospice.

The St Catherine’s Hospice, Driffield Support Group celebrated their Silver Anniversary Year by setting themselves a target to reach the staggering total.

Member of the support group, Pauline Turner, spoke about the milestone year for the group.

Pauline said: “To mark 25 years of fund raising by Driffield Support Group for St Catherine’s Hospice, a target was set for this special year to raise funds of £10,000.

The year began in November 2012 with a very popular “Pudding Club” evening with the puddings prepared by The Eatmore Pudding Club for the audience to taste.

We all ate five delicious puddings & then a vote was taken to decide the favourite, what an indulgence.

In March 2013 our main event of the year took place, which was a Silver Anniversary Ball held in the Members’ Pavilion at Driffield Showground on a very cold and wet night but the atmosphere inside was wonderful and despite it being a bit draughty a good time was had by all.

October brought us a fun evening of Frog Racing and together with an auction on the night we “hopped” to a wonderful profit for the Hospice.

A fashion show was kindly put on for us in November by M & Co in Driffield with committee members & their friends strutting their stuff down the catwalk.

Sadly, none of us have been signed by a model agency.

Driffield Cricket Club and the Trout at Wansford were venues for quizzes and a Tombola was held at Burton Agnes Gardeners Fair.

The finale for our Anniversary year was a banquet at The Water Margin in November 2013 and at this event we were proud to present a cheque for £10,000 to St Catherine’s Hospice, we had reached our target!

An important event in our year, though not a fund raising event, is the Light up a Life ceremony which took place on 2nd December 2013 at Driffield Cricket Club. It was the first time that the event had been held there and we would like to thank everyone from the cricket club for their help on the night, it was an excellent venue and was a very special evening.

We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported us over the year, there are too many to mention individually but they include local businesses who have sponsored various events, people who have donated raffle prizes, people who have given freely of their time to help and to the members of the public who have bought our event and raffle tickets and also to the organisations which have made generous donations to us, thank you all.

Well, it’s full steam ahead now into the next 25 years and our first event is “An Evening with the Pudding Club” to be held on Monday 24th March 2014 at The Masonic Lodge, Lockwood Street, Driffield. This is your chance to sample again the scrumptious puddings made by The Eatmore Pudding Club so please come along and join us. Tickets cost £12 and are available from Pauline Turner on 01377 270118 or the St Catherine’s Hospice shop in Driffield.”
