To celebrate the launch of the new Driffield Post Office, Sir Greg Knight MP ‘cut the ribbon’ at an opening ceremony on Friday 21 February.
Sir Greg Knight MP said: “I welcomed the news that Driffield Post Office was to be modernised and am delighted to be here today to congratulate David Lewis, Branch manager Mark and Branch staff on their hard work and to formally open the new branch.
He added: “The Post Office is vital to the community around Driffield and I’m sure the new improved office, and the longer opening hours, will be warmly welcomed by all of my constituents.”
As part of Post Office plans to modernise the network and extend opening hours for customers, the modernised Driffield Post Office at 47 Market Place, Driffield offers Post Office services from four counter positions.
The new-look Driffield Post Office is open from 9am - 5.30pm Monday to Saturday. Customers also benefit from a wide range of Post Office services available at the new look branch.
Post Office owner David Lewis said: “I was delighted to have the opportunity to open the new branch and very pleased to be officially launching it today for the community. I hope our customers like their new Post Office and I’d like to thank Sir Greg Knight MP for taking time from his busy schedule to come here today. I’d also like to thank the local community for their continued support and use of the branch.”
Steve Bruckshaw, Post Office Senior Stakeholder Manager, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents around Driffield and I am confident that this stunning new modern Post Office will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.
He added: “This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”
Under the current Parliament the Government has committed £1.34bn for the Post Office network to make sure there is no programme of Post Office closures and to update branches; in November the Government announced a further £640m investment in the Post Office network, from 2015 to 2018.
Nationwide the investment programme will see up to 8,000 branches modernised.
