Sunday's great walk for great cause

Residents are being urged to put their best foot forward this weekend to raise money for a vital East Yorkshire charity.

Sunday's Hinge Walk will raise money for the all-important Hinge Centre, which provides crucial help and support for young homeless people in Bridlington.

The event, which kicks off at 9 am this Sunday June 26, is being sponsored by West BS.

West BS Chairman of the board of directors, Chris West, said: "This should be a great fun day out for everyone including the dog!

"Stride out or take your time, make the most of the fantastic coastal scenery and attractions along the way, and at the same time your help will benefit the less fortunate.

"Please come along and support The Hinge Centre."

Walkers of all abilities have the choice of setting out on two routes for Sunday's event - both are wheelchair and pushchair friendly.

The three-mile Silver Walk begins at either the Ship Inn at Sewerby or South Shore Car Park, followed by a stroll to the Harbour and back.

The six-mile Gold Walk also sets of from either the Shipp Inn at Sewerby or South Shore Car Park, followed by a trek to the alternative starting point and back again.

East Riding Councillor Jane Evison, who will open the walk and the lead the first walkers, added: "I am pleased and proud to be part of Sunday's Fun Walk in aid of the Hinge Centre.

"This is a great way to be able to do a little something for people in need of some help and enjoy yourself and get fit at the same time. I hope lots of people turn out to help raise as much money as we can.”

Participants can set off at any time between 9 am and 12 pm on the day and the event will finish by 4 pm.

Adult tickets are priced at £3, children's at £1 and a family ticket costs £7.

Discounts at participating businesses will also be available along the routes, and youngsters can take part in 'I spy' as well as various quizzes to be in with a chance of winning a prize.

Eve Laird, manager of the Hinge Centre, said “If you’ve ever been affected by homelessness or are grateful that you haven’t, please turn out to support The Hinge, a local charity helping local people."
