Weather latest: Leeds coldest city in UK ahead of more snow and ice this weekend
The Met Office has issued yellow warnings of snow and ice for Thursday, Friday and Saturday as a band of wet weather moves eastwards followed by freezing temperatures under clearer skies.
Leeds was the coldest city in the country overnight as the mercury fell to minus 1C (30.2F) in the early hours of Thursday, while temperatures struggled to reach 4C (39.2) across most of the UK.

Hide AdForecaster Dean Hall said: “Our attention turns to the Atlantic later with our next frontal system which will move eastwards reaching Northern Ireland through the afternoon and move in through the night.”
He added: “On the leading edge of that there could be some sleet and snow in the north of England, north Wales, the north of the Midlands and southern Scotland.
“The snow will likely be confined to the Pennines and Welsh mountains, but we could see ice patches elsewhere on untreated roads.”
On Thursday Leeds and Manchester are expected to see temperatures around 7C (44.6F), Bristol 8C (46.4F) and a high of 10C (50F) in London, while Glasgow will see 6C (42.8F) at most.
