Your article: Pocklington church rings in towering refurbishments

The Church Bells in Pocklington will be silent for about six weeks from mid-March to mid-April.

The last time any major maintenance was done on the bells was over 60 years ago.

Everyone in the town will have heard them rung for the Tuesday evening practice, Sunday morning church service and perhaps for their wedding, however only the clock chimes will be heard while the work is carried out.

The oldest bell was first cast in 1650, probably by Abraham Smith in York.
