A GROUP of Driffield Scouts are celebrating after hiking to victory in a 35km Fells marathon - bringing home the trophy for the first time in almost 20 years.
Four members of the 2nd Driffield Scouts, Jack Howard, Harry Walker, James Craven, and Nick Caley, beat competition from 23 other scout groups from across the region to win the Haltemprice scouts Fells Marathon.
The two-day hiking competition saw the youngsters navigate a 35 km course featuring varied and challenging terrain including open moorland, farm land and forestry.
The team started out from the Watson scout centre, in Carlton, Cleveland, finishing the course in 8hrs and 45 minutes.
Scout leader, Neal Ingram, told the Driffield Post: "The team kept their heads on the last day as this event has been won and lost many times on the second day.
"The team were pleased to bring the trophy back to Driffield after a 19 year gap since the trophy was last won by 2nd Driffield."
Driffield Agricultural Society director, David Tite, was a member of that winning team and has offered his congratulations to this year's winners and said he was pleased the trophy had finally returned home to Driffield.
Peter Joyce, the son of Driffield scouts district commissioner Jenny Joyce, was also part of the winning team who brought home victory in 1989 and he has said a big well done to all the scouts who took part from Driffield.
Driffield Scouts, Sam Kneeshaw and Joshua Pettit, joined up with a team from Stamford Bridge and said the event was a real challenge.
Second and third places were awarded to teams from 1st Pocklington Scouts.
