BRING your own army is not often written on invitations but that is exactly what one Driffield man is asking.

Warhammer enthusiast Paul Davidge is making the unusual request in the hope of setting up a gaming community in the town.

He would like to start regular gaming evenings at Driffield's Cass Hall and is appealing for anyone interested in the fantasy war game genre to get in touch.

Paul, 34, who lives on Mill Falls, said he knew there were people interested in the games in Driffield, it was just a matter of bringing them together.

He said: "It's just a matter of getting everyone in one place and they can bring their own army. The more people the better."

Paul is particularly interested in playing Warhammer and Warhammer 40k which are tabletop miniature war games with a fantasy setting played using small figurines which players can paint.

Games last for around four hours and involve complex rules. They are sold in Games Workshop in Hull and York but Paul, who used to paint the figurines for a living, said there was no shops of this kind in Driffield and no organised gaming sessions.

He has played for the past 20 years and said figurines can become collectors items and some pieces increase in value tenfold when sold on internet auction websites such as eBay.

Paul said: "They say there's a credit crunch but I've not seen it online where people buy the miniatures. Some go for £20 for one figure which is much more than the original price."

There are so far a group of four people who wish to hire Cass Hall for gaming with Paul but he said they would like to have at least eight people to spread the cost of the hall hire.

Anyone interested in joining the group should contact Paul on email address driff40k@yahoo.com.
