Links between youngsters at the school and their Swiss counterparts may now be forged following the visit by Bettina Schlaepfer and Katherine Wild.

The two, who both teach at schools near Zurich, have spent the last three weeks at the school and have been working with the children in Years Three, Four and Five.

And they told the Driffield Times they had thoroughly enjoyed their time in the area.

"It's a really lovely place.

"It's a really good school. It's interesting how it works, how the teachers work together."

And Miss Wild added that they had been surprised by the size of the school.

She said: "It's quite a large school.

"We thought it would be much smaller but it's a wonderful school."
Both teachers made the trip as part of efforts to improve their English, which is due to be introduced to the Swiss curriculum later this year.

They said they had also thought about the possibility of their own classes writing to their counterparts in Nafferton.

Away from the classroom, they have also spent time exploring some of the area's well known attractions, visiting Burton Agnes Hall, Scarborough and Whitby.

Headteacher Michael Goy said the school had enjoyed the chance to work with Miss Schlaepfer and Miss Wild.

"What is particularly nice is for the children to communicate with people from another area, to widen and broaden their experiences", he said.

Miss Schlaepfer also paid tribute to the children, who have learnt some of their native Swiss German language, for the patience they had shown towards them.
"They are very easy to talk to", she said.
