DRIFFIELD kart racer Adam Saunders was happy to bag his first race win of the season during the fourth round of the nine-round PFI Pro Kart Championship series at Grantham last Sunday.
Adam, who qualified on pole, took his first place in the opening heat and with a second and third place safely tucked away in heats two and three, he started on pole in the final having had the best results all day.

“I led for part of the final although I was overtaken early on,” Adam told Post Sport this week.

“But as the laps went by my kart got quicker to the extent that I was quicker than the leader.

“I didn’t fight for the lead because I wanted to wait until the last two laps to make my move then.

“Unfortunately, the third place driver made a lunge from the back and drove into the side of my kart and right over the front of it.

“This meant the first place man got away and my chance had gone, so I had to settle for third.

“The good thing is I knew I could have won because I had the pace.”

Adam, who drives a Pro Kart twin-engine Honda, was pleased with his overall result which means that he now stands third in the championship, 20pts behind the leader and 13 behind the second place driver.

But with five rounds still to go, Adam remains confident that he can still mount a challenge for the leading position.

“There are plenty of points to go for,” he said. “ I’m sure I can still make it up.”
