SUNDAY was the final day of the 18th annual Driffield Open Bowls Festival at Kings Mill Road greens when the five major competitions were decided - with only two of the titles going to Driffield area bowlers.
THE 18th annual Driffield Open Bowls Festival came to a close on Sunday with the semi finals and finals of all competitions at the Kings Mill Road greens. But with strong entrants from all over the region this year only Sledmere's David Coultas (mens singles) and Nafferton's J Foster and J Rudd (ladies pairs) won from the Driffield area.

Norman Collingbourne (Driffield Mixed) was beaten finalist in the mens singles and Cranswick's Wendy Sylvester got through to the ladies singles final before being beaten by P Veitch of Scarborough South Cliff.
Likewise, Joan Stabler and Mildred Galtry (Driffield Rec) got to the final of the ladies pairs before going down, and B & B Nudd (Leconfield) were beaten finalists in the mixed pairs.

Chief organiser Stewart Clark would like to thank all who helped with the running of this year's festival, including Phil and Chris Skelton who ensured that the greens played as well as they did, to the helpers for setting the rinks out in the morning and clearing them up at night time, and to the many who provided the players with refreshments, both hot and cold, throughout the week.

Also Stewart expresses his thanks to the rest of the Open Bowls committee for their help during the week - Janet Farnsworth, Percy Ashbridge, Margaret Colling bourne and John Burchett - and to the many bowlers who entered the tournament, helping to make it the success it is.

Grateful thanks to the sponsors who backed the tournament: Lloyd Dowson Group, Paul Berriman Windows, Transglobal Engineering, E Dobson & Sons, Driffield Town Council, Dewhirst group, F Waites & Sons, Boston Bowls Supplies and Tesco.
