ALMOST nine months after leaving Driffield to train with the University of Bath swim squad, Georgina Lomas is continuing to make good progress in her swimming career.
During that time the talented Driffield 15-year-old has competed in Eindhoven, Holland and Luxembourg with the senior squad members.
A highlight in March was her competing at the British Championships in the 50m freestyle.
The event doubled this year as the Beijing Olympic Trials so the cream of British swimming was present - quite an experience and a real bonus for Georgie who hadn't even expected to make the tough qualifying time. As it turned out, however, she was one of only six 15 year old girls throughout Britain who had done so.
Georgie has also just competed over the bank holiday week-end at Millfield School in Somerset where the South West Counties Regional Youth Championships have been held.
She had three individual swims in her 14/15 years age group and made the finals in all three, ultimately coming second in the 50m freestyle, just missing gold by a tenth of a second, and fifth in both the 100m and 200m freestyle.
She also picked up a bronze as part of the 4 x 200m freestyle team and a hard fought silver in the 4 x 100m medley relay.
The second place in the latter event also qualified the team to compete at the National Youth championships at the end of July where she has already made the qualifying times for the individual 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle events.
Proud father Rob Lomas told Post Sport: "We all naturally miss her but she does enjoy her new life!
"We chat every evening and she looks forward to coming home during school holidays and meeting her friends.
"She also gets great support from her coaches and swimming friends when she swaps her Team Bath swimming cap for her Kingston Upon Hull swimming cap to continue her training."
