Seven members of the Driffield Karate Academy represented the Hull and East Riding Karate Academy on Sunday in the Hull Open Karate Championships at Hull University Sports Centre.
Driffield’s Tom Aylward, 12, came 3rd in the 10-12-years mixed Kata section, under purple belt.

Following this Tom fought exceptionally well and was narrowly beaten in his fighting final by a fellow team mate from Hull and East Riding Karate Acade
my, earning Tom 2nd place. Tom then represented the Hull and East Riding Karate Academy team fight where they won 1st place. This was a fantastic and well earned achievement by Tom.

Driffield’s other winning competitors were James Lee, 14, who represented the Hull and East Riding 13-15 year age team and won 1st place. Fern Aylward, 10, came 3rd in her Kata section, whilst Emily Palmer, 13, and Michael Rowland came 2nd in their Kata sections.

Other competitors were Aleisha Train, 8 and Rebecca McRae, 9.

All the competitors did exceptionally well, showing the true spirit of Karate in their commitment to the sport and having the courage to perform in front of such a large crowd.

For some of the above competitors it was their first competition and they all thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Driffield Karate Academy trains three times a week, Tuesdays and Saturdays at Driffield Sports Centre and Thursdays at Wetwang Village Hall.
