Brandesburton easy winners of the top of the table clash

BRANDESBURTON and Walkington, the top two teams in Division One, clashed in whatmost people would have thought would turn out to be a close match. But it was Brandesburton all the way as the leaders won comfortably by eight wickets.

The Brandesburton bowling attack of Danny Ezard (3-60) and Matthew Vodden (4-71) wheeled away unchanged throughout the entire Walkington innings, and only Matt Scattergood with 61 not out held the home side innings together. Scattergood came to the wicket with Walkington reeeling on 16-4 and managed to take his side through to 133-7 at the close. But Brandesburton made short work of chasing down that target, with Kevin Atkinson hitting an unbeaten 62 as they finished the job in less than 20 overs for the loss of two wickets. Mike Sharp made 55.

There was a lot of big hitting at Hornsea where the North Dalton attack got well and truly carted by the homesters who put up 259-1. Richard Hornby blasted an unbeaten 133 and fellow opener Ged Stead made 66.

Leaders Nafferton stay on top of Division Two with their ninth straight win, beating Hessle by six wickets. Shaun Tate hit an unbeaten 54.

Dalton Holme opened up a gap at the top of Division Three beaten bottom side Gilberdyke without too much fuss. Dalton posted 206-4 with half centuries from Stocks (57) and Andy Kingdom (54no) and then Kingdom completed a good all round day as he wrapped up the Gilberdyke innings for 60 by taking 3-3.

Narrowest win of the day was at Newport where Hutton Cranswick 2nds got home by one run. Tom Frampton rescued his side from early toils with 65 and then restricted Newport so well that they needed eight from the last over with one wicket left. Frampton bowled it, and kept the Newport batsmen quiet to lead his side to the narrowest of victories.
