Duo bid farewell after Yorkshire Championships
Wolds Gymnastics Club duo Kelly Brook and Amy Blacker travelled to York on June 28 to compete in the 16 years plus level 4 championships.
They both performed a back flip on the beam and a host of other difficult moves – Amy took the bronze medal here.
Their Yurchenko Vaults were excellent gaining them gold and silver medals. Amy's asymmetric bars were also strong giving her the bronze medals.
Kelly achieved bronze on floor and their final placing were 3rd and 4th .
A fitting end to their competitive career in gymnastics as they had decided this competition was their swan song.
Both have been members of the club for 10 and 12 years respectively and have been competing for about eight years.
They have been the first gymnasts to compete at the higher levels in Yorkshire and have been an inspiration to many younger gymnastics, particularly in the last two to three years, not only at the club, but also for other gymnasts in the Eastern region at other clubs.
The duo (pictured right) will be greatly missed at training and competitions, but hopefully will keep links with the club in the future.
Earlier in June the club also travelled to York to take part in the Yorkshire Level 5 championships to compete against clubs from North, South, East and West Yorkshire.
Chelsea Duffield competed in the Under 12's competition. She performed really well, except for the beam where she was extremely nervous and fell three times, without this she may have been in the top 10, but as it was she finished in 20th place, the winner and runner up both coming from Wetherby, a club whose gymnasts train over 12 hours, whereas Chelsea is committed to seven hours.
In the 3rd session of the day Emma Nicholson was placed 5th overall and narrowly missed a medal on floor coming in 4th place.
Charlotte Walker was very close behind in 6th place and gained a super bronze medal on vault. It was the first time Abi Longney had performed somersaults in competition, but completed them superbly. She was very nervous on all pieces, but did herself proud and finished in 18th place.
Lauren Whiting was the final member of the team and finished in 27th place.
