A Driffield photographer had cause to celebrate last weekend at The Guild of Professional Photographers Awards, that took place at Crewe Hall.

At its awards night the Guild announced that Marie Warwick had won one of its Top Ten awards for 2013 in the ‘Open Category’.

Marie said: “I am still in shock to be honest, I went along to the awards thinking I hadn’t got a chance, especially standing alongside so many talented people.

“When my name was called others on my table were congratulating me before it had really sunk in. I am delighted and thrilled to have been awarded fourth place, it is a very prestigious and sort after award.

“For me personally, it was probably one of the best nights of my life and a recognition of all the hard work that I’ve put in over the year.”

Guild Director Steve Thirsk said: “This is an incredible achievement. With nearly 10,000 images assessed from throughout the UK, Europe and further afield for Marie to receive a Top Ten award from the Guild is clear evidence of her consistently high standard of photographic skills. Marie should be very proud of her outstanding achievement - I am not surprised her services are sought after as I can only applaud them.”

The Guild of professional Photographers which has been in existence since 1988, is a highly respected photographic body dedicated to enhancing skills in the art, craft and profession of photography.

It organises what is potentially the most demanding of annual photographic competitions.

Photographers must submit several images a month for assessment over the course of a year, and only those with the highest combined scores at the end of the year are awarded the Guild’s coveted ‘Top 10’ Photographer award.

Marie was also awarded a lifetime membership of the Photographer’s Bar, a unique distinction awarded to photographers who have successfully had images assessed by the Guild over the course of a year, and attained a score equating to an award for each entry made, evidencing an exceptional level of professional skill and consistency.

Marie added: “I am very privileged to be one of only 26 members of the Guild that has achieved that in 2013.”
